History
The Yukon Schools' Athletic Association began in 1996 through the dedication and vision of Yukon physical education teachers. At that time the Yukon Government was in the process of re-structuring Yukon high schools. The Yukon Physical Education Teachers Association recognized the need for a distinct body that would be responsible for the organization and guidance of the athletics program.During the early days, the Yukon Physical Education Teachers' Association fostered the development of YSAA. Within these meetings Keith Clarke and Vicki Dawe were instrumental in developing the constitution that would later guide the Athletic Association. The culmination was the establishment, in 1998, of the Yukon Schools’ Athletic Association. Keith Clarke, co-founder and first president of the association, worked to define the role of YSAA within the Yukon education system.
The Yukon Schools’ Athletic Association continues to focus on creating positive relationships with sport governing bodies as well as providing quality sporting experiences for Yukon student/athletes. |
